First-Year Students at University Park

A summer start is an opportunity to begin your time at University Park in a smaller environment. You’ll meet faculty, your adviser, and have an opportunity to familiarize yourself with the campus and community while taking two courses during Summer Session II that will count toward your degree.

At University Park, first-year students may be admitted for a summer start, or they may choose to begin their coursework in the summer by transferring their admittance from fall to summer.

What are my choices if I am admitted to University Park for a summer start ?

  1. You can elect to take any two in-person summer courses at University Park during summer session II, in consultation with your academic adviser. You'll schedule these classes as part of New Student Orientation.
  2. You can elect to enroll in your two summer courses through the Learning Edge Academic Program (LEAP). LEAP pairs academic coursework with out-of-class experiences and peer-mentoring to help you successfully transition to college. About 75% of students who begin in the summer choose to participate in LEAP, and there is no additional cost.

Begin enrolling in LEAP classes when LEAP registration opens in March.

I enjoyed my summer classes. I feel as if the smaller class sie helped prepare me for exams, and I benefited from the one-on-one time I got with my professor.
